John3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
This is the most famous scripture ever quoted, but do we really understand it. Do we really understand God’s love?
The love God shows here is His “agape” love. This is an unconditional love, a love that is not limited by any conditions and is unreserved. Sounds strange! It shouldn’t, because this is the God we serve.
From Genesis to Revelation, our Father expresses His love toward us in many ways. He made a way for mankind to come into relationship with Him, by the shed blood of Jesus. Why then do we ignore His love?
Mostly, fear and unbelief hinders us from communicating to Our Father. These are spirits that lie, making us believe God cannot forgive our wrong. 1John4:17 states, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment. He who fears has not been perfected in love”.
Fear is cast out when we embrace His agape love. Our fears show that we are not complete in His love. The Father forgives us when we confess and truly repent from our wrong, but we must also ask for His strength to walk in righteousness. We cannot walk in God’s love on our own. But we can ask God to impart His agape love into our hearts to walk according to his ways. In John14:15 Jesus says, “If you love me, keep my commandments”.
Mat 22:36 - Mat 22:40 “Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said to him. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets”.
We need to return to God’s love and not allow fear to blind us from receiving it. Acceptance of God’s love empowers us to walk and abide in righteousness. True love compels one to seek after God and do his will. Only then can we find true fulfillment in life.
