Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
In 1993, late pastor Wynne Lewis preached a message titled “GET ON WITH IT” in his message he quoted Acts 1:8 and made this statement, “if Jesus said that this experience of baptism by the Holy Spirit was adequate and sufficient for launching and the continuance of the church, why should we seek any additional experiences? Instead let’s make the most of Pentecost that we have.”
When the Holy Spirit was outpoured as stated in the book of Acts Chapter 2, it was a fulfilment of God’s word. When it was experienced in the early 1900s it was yet a fulfilment of God’s promise.
In 1906 when the Azusa street revival broke out, it was the most innovative and impactive spiritual renovation in the history of the church. When men and women have waited and desired the promise Holy Spirit, God has honoured His people by the outpouring and baptism of the Holy Spirit.
The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was intentional. It was to enable the church to walk and operate in a supernatural dimension such as the world has never seen before. It was to enable the Church witness about the crucified and the risen Jesus Christ, in power and authority.
The Book of Acts testifies to this. In it we see how God through His Holy Spirit turned unbelieving, fearful and dejected men into men who turned the world upside down.
Three thousand people responded to Peter’s first gospel message. The Pharisees and the Sadducees witnessed uneducated fishermen speak with such boldness. They were not afraid to die for the gospel. Unusual miracles happened as the disciples walked through the streets of Jerusalem.
Acts 19:11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: People of God, we have been given power to make a difference; We have been anointed to set the captives free and turn the world upside down. Let’s get on with it and God will do the rest.
