Luke 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you.
We have been given the power to torment the kingdom of darkness, to trample, to set our loved ones free from the clutches of the evil one. We have been conferred with a legal right in the spiritual realm, to carry out God’s rule and kingdom assignment on this earth. We have the backing of the King of kings who Himself says in Matt. 28:18 - All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth ... GO! This is powerful.
A policeman has no power or authority to stop a person or car without the backing of the government or the queen, you can dress up in a police uniform or have all the paraphernalia associated with the police force, you may look like a police man however without being conferred with legal backing of the state you have no authority. You are a fraud.
As a Christian, born again believer you have been given authority to uproot, to plant, to set free and live a sinless life of victory. The book of 1st John 5:4 "For whatsoever is begotten of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith." 1st John 5:18 "We know that whosoever is begotten of God does not sin; but he that was begotten of God keeps himself, and the evil one touches him not."
However for us to walk in this authority we must first learn to walk under authority. In the Bible the centurion recognised Jesus’ authority because He Jesus was a man who walked under authority. The Centurion himself was a man in and under authority and so could identify with Jesus’ spiritual authority.
The key to walking effectively in our given authority is learning to walk under authority. Paul in writing to the Corinthian church used military terminologies to describe the warfare against sin and the devil, and goes on to say that God must be our commander in chief in every area of our lives. Even our thoughts must be submitted to Him. We cannot walk in that authority if everything we do is contrary to God’s command and will. So Paul concludes by saying in 2Co 10:6 “and being ready to punish all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled."
David was able to defeat Goliath and bring victory to God’s people using an ordinary weapon, but in David’s hand it was a mighty weapon.
David walked the under authority of his father, King Saul and his older brothers despite his brother’s insults and ridicule. The bible says the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, they are not ordinary, they are not fleshy, but are mighty through God in pulling down strongholds. You have been given authority to destroy the kingdom of Satan and bring victory to your home, your family, your neighbourhood, your city and country. You have God’s backing, you have heavens army on your side, and you are a victor not a victim.
Walk under authority today and you will find yourself walking in that God given authority.
