Taste And See

In 1992, I was worshipping and speaking to the Lord; broken and downcast from uncertainties, drained from a number of issues that needed resolution. I had become so overwhelmed by the challenges in my life. I had just failed my driving test for the third consecutive time.

As I continued worshipping I had the Lord speak this words clearly into my heart, “I am the Lord your God and I do not change, I visit the iniquities of the fathers to the third and fourth generation but taste of me and see that I am good.”

This never made sense to me at the time. I spoke to other Christians but nobody could give me an answer. The year went by and I began to understand this was God’s way of encouraging me. It did not really matter what I was going through, it did not really matter what life was throwing at me, “He is a good God”. All I needed was to come to Him and trust Him.

David was anointed King at a very early age, but had to run from Saul, hide in caves, and feign insanity. All these happened after his famous victory over one of Israel’s greatest foe, Goliath. Many would wonder were God was in all of these, yet David was able to write in Psalm 34:1 I will praise the Lord at all time and His praise will continually be in my mouth. In verse 8 David went on to say “Taste and see that the Lord is good, how happy is the man who takes refuge in Him”.

Our situations and circumstances might seem as big as Mount Everest; we are still encouraged to taste and see that the Lord is good.

In John 14: 18 He says “I will not leave you as orphans, I am coming to you”.

When the Lord Jesus was going through His last hour on the earth, the Bible tells us in the book of Luke 22: 42-43 that as He agonised in the garden of Gethsemane an angel from Heaven came to strengthen Him. Taste and see that in your hour of agony God will send encouragement. When you struggle through life’s unpredictable path, taste and see that the Lord is good.

In John 14:16 - “I will ask the Father to give you another Comforter who will never leave you nor forsake you."

Psalm 100:5 - “The Lord is good and His mercy endures forever."

God’s goodness is based on His loyalty to His Word and His love towards us.

Why don’t you taste and see the goodness of God?
Where are you at?
What is life throwing at you?
What is the difficult situation?
What is the mountain facing you?

In 2012 and beyond, taste and see that the Lord is good.
