When I reflect on my life and realize how much my passion was misdirected, I thank God that He found me. Our Christian passion is founded essentially on faith, faith in a man who himself had a passion for humanity. Our Christian passion is energized by a spirituality that is rooted in grace. Someone wrote and I quote:
Deuteronomy 6: 4-5 gives us a picture of where our passion should be directed
“Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah: and thou shalt love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might”.
We have been called to love God and only God with all our heart (Spirit) and with our soul (Emotions). Our Christian Passion therefore should endure through suffering, the unexpected, through failures and successes, through pain and disappointment and should be powered through an unshakeable certainty of faith. This can only happen when our greatest passion is directed to God.
IDOLS IN OUR LIVES
He says we should have no other God besides Him. We should not carve any image, and we should not bow down to them. If we love our ministry more than we love Him, if we put anything before Him no matter how important it is to us, then we are making idols. if we spend more time building our careers than we spend with him then we are carving images. The word of God is clear on this; “you shall have no other gods besides me”.
So many people have become more passionate about their ministry, more passionate about their gifting than they are about the giver. Check your heart, is your passion misplaced? Are you unwittingly carving images for yourself?
Misplaced passion can be very destructive. if we are driven by our careers, our achievements, our ministries, then our passion for the one who died for us will suffer.
We cannot afford to let our man made passion outstrip the passion we have for the King of Kings.
I have found out that if we can keep the first two of the Ten Commandments, then everything remaining becomes relatively easy to keep.
Passion rightly directed will bring untold success in every sphere of our lives. Deut 6:3 ”Listen obediently, Israel. Do what you're told so that you'll have a good life, a life of abundance and bounty, just as GOD promised, in a land abounding in milk and honey”.
Let us give ourselves a reality check today. Is your passion misdirected? If it is please return to your first love.
