“Our outward expression of harmony will reflect our inward harmony of purpose”. The Psalmist says in Psalm 133:1 “how wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity”. In some translations it says “IN HARMONY”.
Unfortunately this harmony or unity is not always found in churches and amongst Christians as it should be. We disagree over so many unimportant issues and so stifle God’s blessings.
The question however is what is so beautiful about unity or harmony? Why should we desire this unity or harmony?
Harmony is what brings strength to the Church. Harmony in a Church or Christian gathering brings the presence of God that destroys yokes and sets captives free. Harmony is what causes the anointing of God to flow without hindrance. This harmony is what separates the Church from any other gathering.
Walking in harmony does not mean that we don’t or cannot have our differences, what it means in reality is that we have one goal and one purpose. Footballers have different styles and play different wings, but for them to win they must play in harmony irrespective of their styles or wings. In an orchestra every man plays a different instrument yet they play in unison to produce beautiful music.
The book of Amos 3:3 says “how can two walk together except they are in “HARMONY” In Mathew 18:19-20 Jesus gives us a recipe for answered prayers, “if two of you agree or in are harmony here on earth concerning anything you ask my father in heaven he will do it for you.” The prayer of two people in agreement is stronger than a whole city praying in discord. Two or more individuals with different talents, different giftings, but who are in agreement will definitely strike the right note with God.
The early church was such an example of harmony; they had everything in common, lacking nothing, helping one another. They in,
Acts 1:14... Continued with one accord in prayer...
Acts 2:1 ...were all with one accord in one place...
Acts4:24... Lifted up their voice to God with one accord...
Acts 5:12... All with one accord in Solomon’s porch...
Every time they were in harmony God showed up and miracles took place. In 2 Chronicles 5:12-14 as the musicians, the priest, all played together in unison the Lord showed up and the priests could not minister again.
Let’s try it out and see if God will not pronounce His blessings upon us His Church and His people.
