Godly Relationships

Relationship is the state or character of being related or interrelated. It is connection between two or more people. Relationship involves more than one person. Relationships include amongst many others:

  • The husband and wife relationship
  • The child and parent relationship
  • The boss / employer relationship
  • And most importantly God, since He is involved in our lives and in everything that is godly.

In all of these relationships what is it that God expects of us? John 13:34-35 tells us, “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

It is impossible to have a relationship by yourself. It is called ISOLATION and God did not create man to be isolated. During creation we hear God say “it is not good --------”. What is it that God saw as not being good? “..that man should be alone”. Gen 2:18 - “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him”. You were not created to live in isolation contrary to what the enemy is telling you.

Man needs companionship, friendship and love. However our closest and most influencing relationship should be with those who love and fear God. Paul writing to the Colossian Church encouraged believers to work on their relationships (Col: 3:18).

  • Husbands are to love their wives
  • Children are to obey their parents in everything, this is pleasing to God
  • Fathers are not to aggravate their children
  • Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh
  • Brothers and sisters to live in harmony.

I want to in conclusion encourage you to seek godly relationship devoid of Selfishness, Self-justification and Self-pity. “There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, yet is not washed from its filthiness.” - Proverbs 30:12 Seek godly relationship built on Self-denial, Honesty, Selflessness, Selfless Love, Integrity and Forgiveness. “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself....” - Matthew 16:24.

How can you say you love God that you do not see when there is no relationship between you and the man you can see?

What is your relationship like?... you be the judge.
