Ecclesiastes 3:11
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”
I truly and genuinely do not know where your heart is at the moment. I do not know what your walk is like with God at the moment.
Is ETERNITY uppermost in your heart at the moment?
Our time here on earth is only a small part of our existence. After our time here, eternity awaits us. We will either be spending ETERNITY with the King of Kings, Eternity with the creator of the universe or Eternity away from Him.
WHAT IS ETERNITY?
Eternity is time without end.
Eternity is a lifetime with the eternal God or a life time away from Him.
Eternity is timeless time.
Eternity is time without beginning and no end
Eternity is everlasting, timeless, forever and ever.
Some years ago there was a popular cliché in the church, “don’t be so heavenly minded that you’re no earthly good.” I’ve never liked that statement and still do not like it, because it is not scripturally correct.
When we read the Bible we are instructed to “Set your mind on things above. and not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:1-3).
Being believers of Jesus Christ we need to intentionally set our gaze on heaven and eternity. We don’t need to worry about being too heavenly minded because most of the time we worry about earthly things anyway.
The question therefore is how ETERNALLY minded are you? Have you become so earthly minded that you have lost focus of ETERNITY?
The Lord Jesus spoke so many times about ETERNITY.
In John 14:1-3, believers are encouraged not to lose heart because He (Jesus) has gone to prepare a place for us.
Where? He has gone to prepare a place for us where He is, which is in heaven.
Why? So that where He is, we may be there also.
In Luke 18:29 He in responding to Peter said:
“And He said to them, "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times as much at this time and in the age to come, eternal life."
The Apostle Paul makes it clear where our hearts should be in 2 Corinthians 4:18, when he says:
“While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
In the book of Hebrews 11, we read about the heroes of faith. Despite their successes, their blessings, their supposed failures, they did not regard this earth as their home. Instead they look forward to a place far better than this earth.
“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”
Can you imagine spending timeless time with the eternal God? If you can only imagine what it would be like standing before the King and hearing Him say “well done my good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.”
Imagine trying to empty an ocean with a tea cup. Imagine trying to chop down an oak tree with a razor blade can imagine how long that will take.
The choice of where you spend eternity is yours and mind to make. God wants you and I to spend it with Him in heaven.
Eternity is nearer to us today than we can ever imagine, every passing moment, every passing second, every passing minute, every passing hour, every day brings us closer to eternity.
If you do not have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, your time after you leave this earth will be spent away from God in a place where there will be torment and the gnashing of teeth. You have a chance today to get ready for eternity. Repent, confess you sins and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ so that you can be saved. If you are a believer, forget about the things that are not going on well for you, forget about the things that have gone well for you and set your mind and heart on God, His Kingdom and eternity.
