In the book of Chronicles, God spoke to the Prophet Nathan and asked him to say to David, “Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee a house”. It is very interesting that God says He will build David a house.
One should therefore ask this question why would God choose to build David a house, of all the kings in Israel, before and after David, why David? Does that mean that God is partial? Far from it; We can however find the answer to this intriguing reason in 1st Chronicles 17:1 "Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in a house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains."
God had blessed David, God had rescued David from his enemies, God had established David, and God had made David great and as David reflects on God’s goodness to him. He wonders in his heart what he can do for God and his first thought was to build God a house and genuinely from David’s heart we can hear the passion to do something spectacular for God being vocalised.
This can be contrasted with the book of Hagai, when the Lord spoke through the prophet Hagai to the Israelites; Hagai 1:4 "Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your ceiled houses, and this house lie waste?"
To the children of Israel during the time of Zerubbabel, building God’s house was not important to them, it was not a priority, it was normal for them to see it in ruins after all it was not their responsibility, even though they lived in secure and comfortable homes; they were more preoccupied with their own comfort.
And the difference is being that even though David dwelled in a secure and comfortable home yet he had affection for God’s house, an affection that made him desire to build God a place of abode.
Jesus later in Mathew 6:33 reaffirm this principle, by proclaiming in Mathew 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
As you seek to build God’s house, He will build you a house, He will meet you at the point of your needs, and He will open the windows of heaven over your life.
How do you build God’s house?
What kind of house will you build God? In Acts 7:48-50 “However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says: 'HEAVEN IS MY THRONE, AND EARTH IS THE FOOTSTOOL OF MY FEET; WHAT KIND OF HOUSE WILL YOU BUILD FOR ME?' says the Lord, 'OR WHAT PLACE IS THERE FOR MY REPOSE? 'WAS IT NOT MY HAND WHICH MADE ALL THESE THINGS?'“
The best house we can build God is meeting the needs that are in His house, the needs in His kingdom, and the needs in the community. Do not sit and stare at the needs in the house and hide your talent, be a blessing to someone.
When you do this you would be building God’s house.
