The Pursuit of His Secret Place

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law (Deuteronomy 29:29 NKJV).

Some months ago I was given a book by one of my students at the bible school, who said the Lord had asked her to give it to me. I was really fascinated by this gesture, but more intrigued by the title of the book, "Secrets of the secret place". The more I read the book, the more I became aware of how much we have lost touch with the one who holds the key to the future and have tried to build the future ourselves.

What is a secret place?

Bob Sorge says “The secret place is your portal to the throne, the place where you taste of heaven itself". The secret place is a place where you keep special things, precious things, and a place where no one else but you alone knows or have the code to enter. The secret place is an exclusive place to only those who have been invited or who are privileged to be part of it.

It is rather interesting that the book of Deuteronomy says that the secret things belong to The Lord, but those things which are revealed belongs to us His children. It means that The Lord will only reveal His secret to those who are close to Him.

The book of Amos tells us, “Surely the Lord God does nothing; unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets”. (Amos 3:7 NKJV)

So we see from this scripture that God does have secrets that can only be revealed to those who desire that secret place, it is an exclusive place but you are not excluded from it as a child of God. It is a place every believer has been invited to, but you must desire it.

Is it just a place of revelations? Not really, it is also a place of security, a place of safety. The psalmist says in Psalm 91:1 -2, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

Jesus tells us that our father who is in the secret place will reward us openly, but first we have to go the secret place. Matthew 6:6 tells us “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly."

Matthew 6:18 again tells us “So that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly."

Jesus in this chapter makes it clear that there is a reward for the pursuit of the secret place.

In the book of Exodus 33 we see that Moses pursued that secret place and was rewarded when God said to Moses, in verses 19-21, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” But He said, “You cannot see my face; for no man shall see me, and live.” And the Lord said, “Here is a place by me, and you shall stand on the rock”.

There is a place by God which those who pursue Him would find as a dwelling place from the storms of the world. This year is our year of the pursuit of God’s secret place. Be a pursuer of that secret place this year.

May the Lord cause His face to shine upon you as you do.
