2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.
The Bible gives us a clear answer to who we are in Christ if we have committed our life to Him as Lord and Saviour. We are a new creation with a new identity. The old life style, the old man is dead and buried.
The question if you are a believer is do you really know who you are in Christ Jesus. Do you know what the word of God says about you? Do you believe that you are a new creation? Unfortunately most born again believers still struggle with their identity,they struggle with who they are in Christ. The enemy bombards their minds with lies.
The book of John 1:12-13 tells us “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”.
As a born again believer you have been given the power, the authority, the legal right to become a child of God. Your identity is not derived from a physical heritage but from a spiritual heritage. You are born of God. This is a difficult thing for many to receive. Knowing who we are in Christ and understanding that we are God’s children will make an incredible difference in our Christian walk.
Three areas that we struggle with as human beings are the areas of Identity, Security and Significance. The Word of God however encourages us in these three areas.
OUR IDENTITY
John 1:12 Tells us that we are the children of God
John 15:15 Tells us that we are His friend
1Corinthians 12:27 Tells us that we are members of the body of Christ
Colossians 2:10 Tells us that we are complete in Christ
OUR SECURITY
Romans 8:1 Tells us that we are not condemned
Romans 8:35 Tells us that we cannot be separated from His love
Colossians 3:3 Tells us that we hidden in Christ Jesus
1 John 5:18 Tells us that because we are born of God the evil one cannot touch us
OUR SIGNIFICANCE
John 15:16 Tells us that we have been handpicked by Christ
1st Corinthians 3:16 Tells us that we are God’s temple
2nd Corinthians 6:1 Tells us that we are co-workers with Him
Don’t let anyone deceive you if you are truly born again. You are a new creation, with God’s identity, secure in God and of great significance and worth.
Never forget that child of God.
