Devotional 2017 - Week 23

2 Peter 3: 1-5 (NKJV)

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!"

The things we see in our society and all around us today can seem perplexing and alarming. The speed with which evil seems to be flourishing can be jaw-dropping to say the least.

The Bible, the greatest best seller of all time, speaks about these things to alarming accuracy. It says the last days which we are in now, will be difficult times, troublesome times, hard to bear times, fierce times. It will be a time where men and women will put themselves first. That is the case now in our “me”, “I” and “myself” world. A world where there is no consideration for others many times. It will be a time when many so love money, that they will willing to do anything, even sell their souls to obtain it.

Devotional 2017 - Week 21

Luke 10: 38-42 (NIV)

"As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her door to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
"Martha, Martha" the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed - or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

Jesus' message to us in this scripture is loud and clear, we must prioritise spending time in his presence. With the pressures of life; family work and ministry, one can feel rather stretched timewise. However, this serves as no excuse and it is our responsibility to apportion our time well. We must make the decision to take time out of our busy schedules to sit at the feet of Jesus. The Christian walk is no easy one and we will grow weary if we try to do things in our own strength. We have to arrive at the place of accepting we need God, we need to be replenished in order to give out otherwise we will dry out.

Devotional 2017 - Week 20

Ecclesiastes 3 vs 1-8 (NKJV)

"To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing; A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away; A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak; A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace."

Ephesians 5 vs 15-16 (NKJV)

"See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

Time is so important that God gave each one of us TIME. The same amount of time. The Bible tells us that there is a time for everything. A time appointed for everything. For every purpose here on earth, there is a time. It is therefore important that we understand the times and seasons God appoints so we can use our time wisely.
