Devotional 2017 - Week 23

2 Peter 3: 1-5 (NKJV)

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!"

The things we see in our society and all around us today can seem perplexing and alarming. The speed with which evil seems to be flourishing can be jaw-dropping to say the least.

The Bible, the greatest best seller of all time, speaks about these things to alarming accuracy. It says the last days which we are in now, will be difficult times, troublesome times, hard to bear times, fierce times. It will be a time where men and women will put themselves first. That is the case now in our “me”, “I” and “myself” world. A world where there is no consideration for others many times. It will be a time when many so love money, that they will willing to do anything, even sell their souls to obtain it.

It will be a time where man will be so boastful, full of pride, arrogant and haughty, looking down on others. It will be a time where people will blaspheme God and His Word, and treat Him with utter disrespect and contempt. A time where children choose to rebel and be completely disobedient to, and be at odds with parents. They will disdain their parents. A time where people know longer know what it means to give thanks and be grateful to God. People will call evil good and good evil. Right will be wrong and wrong will be right in the eyes of many. Don’t we just see that today all around us.

A time where many will refuse to forgive those who have offended them. They will tear down with their mouths. Each one will do what seems right in their eyes. There will be no self control after all we live in a “free world where we are adults and can make our own choices. People will betray and let down one another showing no integrity. Covenant breakers, living only for their own pleasure and nothing else. The list could go on and on.

The Bible says to us as children of God that we should turn away from people who live like as been described. Why? So that we don’t copy them, and begin to live like them.

It is also important that we also check our lives to make sure that we are not such people ourselves. Why not examine yourself today against the yardstick of these verses, and see how things are with you. If you see that you are falling into the error of these perilous days, now is the time to acknowledge it to yourself, before God, and ask for His forgiveness and grace to live differently.

God’s grace is sufficient for you even in these times. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. He only can be our strength in these days, no other. Blessings to you.
