Devotional 2021 - Week 6

Genesis 7: 5 -17 (NKJV)

Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it. So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying, ‘Bring me game and make savory food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the Lord before my death.’ Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to what I command you. Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make savory food from them for your father, such as he loves. 10 Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he may bless you before his death.” 11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Look, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth-skinned man. 12 Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to be a deceiver to him; and I shall bring a curse on myself and not a blessing.” 13 But his mother said to him, “Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, get them for me.” 14 And he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and his mother made savory food, such as his father loved. 15 Then Rebekah took the choice clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son. 16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck. 17 Then she gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

Rebekah was what you will call a schemer. In actual fact she committed fraud. She manipulated a situation and caused her son Jacob to lie and cheat. Even when Jacob was hesitant in doing what she asked him to do because he knew it was wrong and could backfire, she still pushed till she had her way.

In today’s language, we will say she organised a scam making her a fraudster and a scammer. That might seem a little harsh but when we read the above verses of scripture that is exactly what she did.

Devotional 2021 - Week 5

Luke 18: 1 - 8 (NKJV)

Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ”  Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

1 Thessalonians 5: 17 (NKJV)

 pray without ceasing,

Our Saviour Himself is speaking to us in Luke 18 and saying you and I ought to pray always and never lose heart and give up praying!

My dear sister, never give up on prayer. Never do away with prayer. Never stop praying Never doubt your prayers are working something good for you. Believe me Prayer works!

Devotional 2021 - Week 4

Acts 5: 12 (NKJV)

And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch.

Acts 8: 5 – 7 (NKJV)

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.

Acts 14: 3 (NKJV)

Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

Our scriptures this week show that God did signs and wonders through the hands of the early apostles. He is no respecter of persons. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. With Him there is no partiality of favouritism.
