Matthew 6: 1-4 (NIV)
"Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you"
As Christians we are called to give to those who are in need. Regardless of how little we perceive ourselves to have, there is always room to give. In our giving we should be mindful to do so without promoting ourselves any way. We have no need to disclose when we choose to bless others as we should not be seeking any form of recognition or acknowledgement. If we arrive at a point when we feel the urge to inform others we must check our heart. God always looks at the heart - He knows exactly why we do what we do. Our motive for giving must be only to bless and not to be seen to be giving.
As the scripture states, God will reward us for the good deeds we do, not man. When we choose to bless, we do so unto God. He has called us to be givers, cheerful givers to meet the needs of others. It is our responsibility to do this in the secret place, away from the eyes of others.
