Exodus 1: 15 - 21 (NKJV)
“Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; and he said, “When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.” But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive. So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this thing, and saved the male children alive?”
And the midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are lively and give birth before the midwives come to them.”
Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty. And so it was, because the midwives feared God, that He provided households for them.”
The Hebrew midwives in this story can be likened to Christian Women who fear God rather than fear man. These two women went against Pharaoh, the most powerful man in those times just to please God. They put their lives at risk to honour God.
They were wise women. The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of the wisdom. These women feared God, so they had the wisdom to deal with Pharaoh like no other one could have. Guess what? The result of their actions was that God caused their lives to be saved (Pharaoh could have ordered for them to be killed), and He gave them households. He provided for their families. He blessed them in ways they did not ask for.
Ladies, we can learn from this story. These women had the fear of God in their hearts, it influenced their actions and God acknowledged their deeds and blessed them. May that be our portion as we choose the fear of the Lord in our hearts and lives, in Jesus name.
