Psalm 41: 1 – 3
Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. 2 The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. 3 The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.
This week ladies God is speaking to us about how we should relate to the poor. You see, the poor are very close to God’s heart and so He wants them to be close to our hearts too. When God talks about considering the poor, he is talking about paying attention to them - those who are materially and financially poor. He is talking about you and I doing something to help them and alleviate their situation.
My dear sisters God is calling us to remember the poor. If you are blessed to have an income, remember the poor in the disbursement of your income. Why not allocate a portion of your income to helping the poor on a regular basis and not just once in a while If you have a skill, why not help train a poor person so that they might gain a skill that can help them have an income to look after themselves and their family. What about helping someone from a family who needs to complete their education complete their education by your financial contribution. Ask the Lord to show you the poor that he wants you to personally and specifically consider. They might people in your extended family, people in your church, people in your community, someone among your network, orphans in other parts of the world, widows, the elderly and the list is endless.
Our verses of scripture this week really fascinate may when I look at the amazing promises included in them. The benefits that come from considering the poor.
The Lord will deliver you in your time of trouble
The Lord will preserve you and keep you alive
You will be blessed here on earth
God will not deliver you to the will of your enemies
The lord will strengthen you in time of illness
The Lord will sustain you in the time of sickness.
May you see a manifestation of all these promises as you take a step today to begin to consider the poor and do something about their plight.
Blessed shall you be as you take that first step….
Shalom!
