Devotional 2017 - Week 12

Colossians 3:12-15 (NKJV)

"Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful."

Just as a new born baby is clothed in a certain way as soon as possible after birth to keep them warm, so also we born again daughters of God have to be clothed as those who are a new creation in Christ Jesus.

How should you and I be clothed? What should our “lifestyle dress code or wardrobe” be like?

Like Peter the Apostle stated in 1 Peter 3:3–4 :

“Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”

This does not mean we should not give any attention to our physical appearance. Far from it, but beyond that we should give attention to our character and lifestyle.

Our “lifestyle dress code or wardrobe” should include tender hearted mercy and compassion for others. Having compassionate hearts for both the unsaved in our homes and around us, as well as our fellow believers. It should include kindness to others. Humility at all times. Meekness which is exhibited through quiet strength. Being strong, while being gentle. Being patient and even tempered even in adversity and suffering. Being tolerant of others. Making allowance for others faults. Forgiving quickly and completely, always remembering how Christ forgave you of all our sins. Most importantly making sure we LOVE at all times. Being at peace and living in peace with others. Cultivating thankfulness and be thankful at all times.

Let’s be deliberate and intentional in making sure this new “lifestyle wardrobe” replaces the old one that consisted of sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed, idolatry, love of the world, anger, rage, malicious behaviour, slander, dirty language, lying etc.

So do you and I need to change our wardrobe? His grace will enable us to do so for even when we are weak He is strong.
