1 Samuel 1: 9 - 11 (NKJV)
“So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the LORD. And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. Then she made a vow and said, 'O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.'”
The story of Hannah in the Bible is one that shows the mercy and faithfulness of God. This story reminds us that He is
concerned for every area of our lives. He sees what we go through and there is nothing He can’t do for us.
Hannah was without child and on top of that she was in a polygamous marriage where her rival wife mocked and provoked her
continuously. You can only imagine what her life looked like. Torment on a daily basis. The good news is that her condition
drew her to the only one who could help, the Lord God Almighty. She was in pain, intense pain of the heart, but that pain
caused her to pray and weep before the Lord.
Not only that, her desperation was so great, she made a vow to the Lord. A vow that if the Lord will give her that one thing
she wanted, a son, she will give him back to the Lord. I see here a woman who loved the Lord so much. Yes she was absolutely
desperate to have a son but at the same time she was willing to surrender this son to the Lord completely for all the days of
his life. Can you imagine what this meant? She will not have the joy of nurturing him, seeing him growing up, living with her
etc.
What are you so desperate for today? What are you praying and crying out to the Lord for? Are you and I willing to let go of
that thing if God gave it to us? All for the glory of His name? Do we love him so much that we are willing to part with the
blessings he gives if that is His will for our lives? My prayer is that we will all grow in our love for him each day, and
nothing will be too much to surrender to Him.
