Lamentations 3: 22 – 23
22Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
What is God’s mercy? His mercy is His tender-hearted loving compassion, goodness and kindness to you and I. His mercy is His divine forbearance, His patience in action when it comes to you and I.
It is because of this mercy of God that we are not consumed or destroyed. It is because of this mercy that we have born again. It is because of this mercy that we are forgiven. It is because of this mercy that we are alive today. It is because of this mercy that we are still standing. His mercy is not conditional because while we were dead in our sins, our loving Father who is so rich in mercy made us alive with Christ and raised us and made us to sit together with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2: 4 – 6). Wow!!! What mercy and love He has shown us.
His mercy towards us is ongoing. His mercy is poured out on us day in day out. All year round, He extends His mercy to us. He never stops showing us mercy. Not because we deserve it but because it His nature to be merciful. He is innately a merciful God. We don’t deserve it yet He continually pours it out on us.
When we think of how merciful He is to us, how should we respond?
Our only reasonable response should be one of ongoing love for Him. We should daily respond in constant thanks and praise for his mercies and faithfulness. We should walk in humility knowing that all we have and enjoy is because of His mercy. We should use the spiritual gifts and talents he has given us to glorify Him and bring Him honour. We should show others mercy because we daily receive His mercy. We should live our lives to please Him by keeping His commands and walking in obedience. We should never take his mercy for granted.
When we do these, we are truly showing gratitude to God and appreciation to our loving Father for His mercies that never end in our lives.
Lord I stand in awe of your mercies to me. I am forever grateful!
