Devotional 2020 - Week 33

Luke 14 vs 16 - 21 (NKJV)

16 Then He said to him, “A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, 17 and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’ 18 But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’ 19 And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’ 20 Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ 21 So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’

The man in this story told in the book of Luke by the Lord Jesus, represents God. God sent out an invitation to many people to come dine with Him, but each one responded with an excuse why they could not come. They basically said No to God On the face of it, all the reasons given were bonafide and legitimate reasons, but to God they were EXCUSES.

Likewise, today God is calling many of us to come and fellowship with Him. To come into His presence. To come and be where He is. To come and commune with Him. To come and dine with Him. What has been your response so far? Have you responded with excuses that on the surface can be described as legitimate? Have you responded by saying no to the Lord?

From this story we see that God is not impressed with excuses. God is not happy when we put any other thing before Him, even legitimate things.  God is not pleased when we say no to Him. Does that then mean that we don’t give due attention to family, friends, work, business, education, career etc when we are supposed to? No on the contrary, it means we don’t put anything or anyone else before God. It means that in our list of priorities God comes first. It means when He calls, we respond and come to Him. Why? Because He has a table prepared for us. He has something beautiful awaiting us. He wants to do us good.

So, my dear sister, let’s examine and re-arrange our priorities and put God at the top of our list. Let’s seek Him first. When we do, everything else will be added be added to us Ask the Holy Spirit today to help you put God’s needs first even beyond your legitimate obligations.

Grace to you….
