Devotional 2020 - Week 11

Psalm 24: 3 – 5

“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation.”

Who can come up to that place where God dwells?  Who can stand before God in the holy of Holies where He lives? My dear sisters, the Bible gives us answers to these questions in our key verses of scripture this week

The truth is that in each of us a deep desire as daughters of the King of kings, to come that place where He dwells and behold His amazing and unfathomable glory. Like Moses, our desire is to see His glory.

How then do we translate this desire into reality? Firstly, we have to have clean hands. Clean hands come first of all as our sins are forgiven at the point of salvation.  After we give our lives to Christ and are washed, we have to daily live with “clean hands” so that we can have a continuous encounter with the Lord. Clean hands have to do with our deeds, our actions, the things we do, our lifestyle, our choices.

Secondly, we have to have a pure heart, a clean heart. In Matthew 5:8, Jesus Himself reinforces this when he said: “Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.” This starts with us being washed by the blood of Christ when we surrender our lives to Him to be our saviour. Following that, we must guard our hearts and through the help of the Holy Spirit maintain purity of heart and a good conscience.

Thirdly, that the person that wants to behold God’s glorious presence must not be given to idols or idolatry. Once we have yielded our lives over to Jesus, we must allow Him to be Lord.  From the point of salvation, we must have no other gods in our lives but Him. Our souls must not be sold out to anyone or anything so much so that that person or thing takes the place of God in our lives. Not our spouse, or child, or job, or career, or money, or a celebrity, or a footballer, or social media, or a friend, or drink, or drugs, or sex, and the list can go on and on.

Finally, do you and I want to be where God is? Then we must be people given to truth. We must not be honest women and not deceitful. God is looking for truth in our inward parts. The Holy Spirit will help us if we ask Him to.

My dear sister, let us pursue after God and approach Him with clean hands, a pure heart and a life fully consecrated and yielded to Him. He will must assuredly bless us as He has promised to in His Word.

Grace to you……
