John 16: 32-33 (NIV)
“A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
In this scripture Jesus is preparing his disciples for his departure from the world. He tells them the challenges will come as he knew the wicked world we live in; that they would face trials and tribulations. In the midst of our troubles and many of us can testify to having them, God is with us. He is our comforter even when we feel alone, misunderstood and confused. When we do not have the solutions we know we have God. When we are unsure which way to go we know we can call out to God and declare we are helpless and need him.
In the world we live in today, many do not have the peace that has been given to us as Christians. They seek comfort and solace in other things that rarely give them what they search for. Our peace is in Christ. In all the chaos and uncertainty he will always be there for us. Even when we too try to address our problems and find solutions in the wrong places he is waiting for us to turn to him. To sit at his feet, to rest in him whether we wish to cry out, speak out or sit in silence.
Let us turn to our saviour remembering that he loves us and has good intentions for us. He brings peace in a world that offers little.
