1 Thessalonians 5 vs 1 to 8
"Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet."
We must be ready for Jesus' second coming. He will come at a time we least expect. Are we prepared? Are we doing all God has called us to do? Is our focus on ourselves, our personal needs and desires or are we focusing on God's heart?
We can become consumed by the things of this world and prioritise them high above the things of God as they are enticing and perhaps bring immediate satisfaction. Though we are in this world, we are not of this world therefore we must remember we are passing through. God has a plan for us whilst here on earth and it is our responsibility to fulfil it by seeking Him with all our heart.
We must remain alert and in tune with The Holy Spirit. We must be ready to act and pray at any given time. We must read the word and draw nearer to God each day as He alone is our source. He grants us wisdom, knowledge and understanding only when we have a deep desire for it. God must trust that we will do good with all He places in our hands.
Let us not live in darkness as others do, let us be salt and light in every situation. Let us seek guidance from God as to how we can make a difference in this darkened, fallen world. Let us walk in love and operate in faith knowing we have received the gift of salvation from our Lord Jesus Christ.
