John 21 verses 20–23 (NKJV)
“Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, 'Lord, who is the one who betrays You?'
Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”
Jesus said to him, 'If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.'
Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, 'If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?”
Jesus Our Lord calls us to follow Him and fix our gaze at all times.
Sometimes we can take our eyes of Jesus and begin to look at others. Looking at what they are doing, or not doing. It’s so easy to become distracted from Jesus and focus on others. We need to guide against this.
In these verses of scripture, the Lord Jesus was careful to correct Peter and say to him focus on me / follow me, and do not become embroiled in what others are doing or not doing. He had just finished giving Peter an assignment to, feed His lambs; tend His sheep; and feed his sheep. He wanted Peter to take that assignment on board and run with it. The same way, He has assignments for all of us. Are we concentrating on those assignments and doing our best to carry them out, or we busy minding other people’s businesses? He calls us today to discover our assignment, run with it and focus on Him.
When we remain focused on Jesus, we stay true to His call upon our lives. His call to follow him, and go and make disciples of others. When we focus on Him, we are not easily disheartened by what we see others do or not do. When we focus on Him, there is no room for comparing ourselves against ourselves, or measuring ourselves against one another. When we focus on Him we don’t fall into envy or disgust of others. When we focus on Him, we are strengthened to carry on doing His will regardless of what we see our brothers doing or not doing.
Jesus had no time to be examining what others were doing, He had a mission to fulfil and he followed it through because He was focused on the Father. Go and do likewise dear sister and be abundantly blessed!!!
