Devotional 2018 - Week 10

1 Peter 2 verse 9 (NIV)

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."

God's word says you are chosen and you are special yet do you receive this for yourself? How many Christians struggle with their identity on a daily basis?

The enemy will remind us that we do not belong, that we are not enough.  He will play on our insecurities and our desire to feel significant in this fickle world.

As unbelievers we were lost and searching in the wrong places. We allowed people and the circumstances we found ourselves in to define who we were.  Now we have a greater understanding we must see ourselves as God sees us.  The world will not always accept us as Christians for a multitude of reasons including our faith, our mindset and our standing but God accepts us and His word tells us who we are.

Our identity must come from the Lord who does not sway. His word is His word and it does not dependant on what we do.  We are not required to earn our identity as it was given to us when we became Christians. No one can take this away from us. We are His daughters, His treasures, special in every way. We need to walk with this knowledge and allow it to penetrate deep down in our heart and mind.

Let us remain thankful that we were chosen, that He pulled us out of the miry clay.  We were once blind and now we can see.  Let us give Him the praise and honour that He deserves because He chose us.
