Devotional 2018 - Week 11

Proverbs 18 verse 20 - 21 (NIV)

"From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."

Our tongue can be used for good in order to edify or it can be used for bad, to bring down and destroy. As Christians we must choose to use our tongue to bring good fruit such as encouragement, prayers, healing, testimonies.

Whatever leaves our mouths has been sitting in our hearts.  Our words are a manifestation of what lies deep within, far beyond what man can see. Our words carry weight and therefore have the power to impact on someone else's life.

We must take responsibility and acknowledge that we have the choice to be kind with our words. Even when others offend or betray us we cannot claim they then made us react with harsh words.  No, the decision lays with us.

Let us act with wisdom, let us be slow to speak and quick to listen.  Let us stay away from idle talk and gossip as this is of no benefit to anyone.  It tears down and destroys the reputation of others and does not honour the God we serve.

I pray we will be women of high virtue who value God's word and live according to it.  That we will allow ourselves to be led by God and not our fleshy natures.  May God grant us the grace and wisdom to be the women he has called us to be.
