Devotional 2017 - Week 34

Psalm 103: 1-2 (NKJV)

"Bless the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits."

In our quest for more, it is so easy to forget God’s goodness to us in the past. Our memories seem to be short lived when we are waiting on God for yet another prayer request to be answered.

Does God get tired of us coming to Him with our prayers? No, He wants us to come to Him. Our coming to Him regularly and in faith demonstrates our dependency on Him. Our coming to Him is not an issue. The issue is that it is easy to forget how God graciously answered our prayers in the past. Do you remember how He answered your prayers: for that job, for a husband, for children, to pass that exam, reveal Himself to you, for your business, in your ministry, for your family life, for deliverance, for healing, for that new home, for your steps to be ordered, for favour, for promotion, for restoration and the list can go on and on? Do you constantly remember and come to Him with praises and gratitude recollecting and recounting His wonderful works in your life?

Our text today reminds us to “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits”. Command your soul and flesh to bless the Lord. Take time today to re-count your blessings one by one and praise God for all He has done. Actually, why not go beyond that and do it every day from now on. He has been good to you and I and He is worthy of Praise!
