Devotional 2017 - Week 35

Mark 9: 2-8 (NKJV)

"Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them. And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”— because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid.
And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves."

In this account in the New Testament we see God the Father affirming His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus. Not only does He affirm Him, He goes one step further and tells Jesus’ disciples who were present to “Hear” Jesus. In other words, the Father was telling them to listen to Jesus, to pay attention to His words, to give heed to whatever He says or tells them.

The same thing applies to us who are believers today. Our heavenly Father wants us to give heed to His Son’s words. He wants us to listen to His Son, to hear Him.

How can we do this? We can do this by giving full attention to His words as stated in The Holy Bible, with the intent to obey and apply them to our lives. In most copies of the Bible, the words of our Lord Jesus are written in red. Why? For us to realise that His words are very important and are to be given due consideration and taken seriously.

Have you heard what He says about various things such as being salt and light, about murder and adultery in the heart, about marriage, about going the second mile, about loving your enemies, about prayer, about fasting, about giving, about serving God and riches, about not worrying, about not judging, about asking, seeking and knocking, the narrow gate, about a house divided against itself, about how defilement comes, about the Kingdom of God, about heaven and hell, about the Father’s love, about forgiveness, about the second coming, about judgement and so much more. You will find what He says about all of these and much more in the Bible.

So, make a renewed point of reading the words of Jesus, studying them, meditating on them, embracing them, applying them to your life and obeying them. Your life will become completely transformed for good and you will bring glory to the Father.
