Devotional 2017 - Week 29

Judges 4: 4-9 (NKJV)

"Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time. And she would sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the mountains of Ephraim. And the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. Then she sent and called for Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, “Has not the LORD God of Israel commanded, ‘Go and deploy troops at Mount Tabor; take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun; and against you I will deploy Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude at the River Kishon; and I will deliver him into your hand’?”
And Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go!” So she said, “I will surely go with you; nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the LORD will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh."

Our Bible Scriptures this week introduces us to Deborah. Deborah was a woman of many parts like many of us today. She was a prophetess, a wife and a judge. In those days the judges of Israel were mainly men. So it is interesting that Deborah a woman was chosen to be a judge to the people of Israel. I believe that she was willing and available and that is why she was chosen by God to do this great work. Are you my sister willing and available? God wants to use you for His kingdom to be a blessing to His people and even others outside of His Kingdom. Will you make yourself available to Him?

Deborah as a judge was available and the people of God came to her as she sat under the palm tree in the mountain of Ephraim to judge their numerous issues. Not only was she a judge, she was also a prophetess. One who God could reveal His purposes to so that it will be communicated to His people. Are you available to hear God’s voice and relay His message to others? After hearing the voice of God and His plans, she communicated this with Barak as was revealed to her by God. She was again available to go when Barak said to her “if you will go with me, then I will go….”. She said, “I will surely go with you…” and did exactly that.

God today is looking for yielded, willing and available vessels to do His bidding so that His will can be done and His Kingdom come here on earth as it is done in heaven. Will you be one of those vessels like Deborah, Esther, Ruth, Mary the Mother of Jesus? Make you self available to God today to use, you will never regret it. Grace to you as you do so!
