Devotional 2018 - Week 6

Psalm 23: 1-4 (NIV)

"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.  He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me."

Devotional 2018 - Week 5

Matthew 6: 1-4 (NIV)

"Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you"

Devotional 2018 - Week 4

2 Timothy 1: 7 (NIV)

"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."

When we became Christians, we became new in Christ and at one with Christ. Though we may not have physically felt so, we received power in order to speak life over our challenges and situations, power to overcome and power to walk along the path God had laid for us. In our weakness Christ makes us strong. The fact we may not feel particularly strong or resilient does not mean we have no power, it simply means we have not fully understood the fullness of God's word and are not yet walking in all He has called us to.

Devotional 2018 - Week 3

Joshua 1: 8-9

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

We have been commanded to read and meditate on God's word throughout the day. When we are at work or in an environment where we are unable to physically look at scriptures, we can speak them in our minds. The more time we spend in the word, the more our hearts will be focused on the things of God. Reading the bible builds up our faith and makes us strong even when we feel weak.

Devotional 2018 - Week 2

1 Samuel 16:7b (NKJV)

"For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

I remember growing up reading the above verse almost every day. It was on a poster hanging on the wall of my bedroom. I have chewed and chewed on these words and have meditated so much on them. I believe they contain great insight to what God is like...

He is definitely different from us. He is far above and He stands alone. There is none like Him. This is why He is called “holy”. God is not like us at all.
