Devotional 2021 - Week 14

Psalm 61 verses 1 - 4

Hear my cry, O God;
Attend to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

For You have been a shelter for me,
A strong tower from the enemy.
I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;
I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah

This week we turn to the Psalms. Here we have the Psalmist David crying out to the Lord in prayer. We should learn from Him. He was saying to the Lord, hear my cry. Give attention to my prayer Lord.

He went on to say, wherever I am I will cry to you Lord. Even if I go to the furthermost parts of the earth, the Lord is there, so I will cry out to Him.  Whether I am on the mountain or in a valley I will call on to the Lord. Whether I am in a dungeon or in a palace, I will cry out to God. Let this be your way of living as well. That you always cry out to the Lord, you always go to Him in prayer whatever the situation and wherever you are at. He is there wherever you are and is waiting to hear you cry out to Him

Are you overwhelmed today? Are you feeling downcast, disappointed, frustrated, pressed down, confused, perplexed, tired; I pray that you will go to the rock that is higher than you and I, and everyone else, Jesus Christ Himself. Go to Him always, He will receive you. He will comfort and strengthen you. He will hear you. He will not forsake you. Do not run away from God. Please always, always run to Him. Don’t give up on the Lord. He will never give up on you.

When you look at the trail of your life, you will find that He has been a shelter for you from the very beginning. He has been there every step of the way. He has covered you and protected you.

He has shielded you from the enemy of your soul. The many times, the enemy came up like a flood against you, your loving Father raised up a standard and said no to the enemy. You are alive today only because of His grace, mercy and love.

So, when the psalmist considered the goodness of God in His life from the very beginning, he declared “I will abide in your tabernacle forever”. In other words, He says I am going nowhere, I will remain with the Lord forever. God is our only Hope. There is nowhere else to go. Jesus is the only answer so let the Psalmist’s resolve be your resolve too.

The Psalmist ends the Psalm with a wonderful statement that he “will trust in the shelter of (God’s) wings”. He was trusting in the everlasting arms of the Lord. The everlasting arms of the Lord are arms full of love for you and I. You can trust in Him. He will not fail you. He will not harm you. He will not let go of you. He will keep you. He will cover you.

Oh, what rest we can have, knowing that we can go to our loving heavenly Father and He will always have our backs. Don’t be deceived by the lies of the enemy that God does not care for you. He does and that is why the word of God tells us to cast our cares on Him, because He cares for us.

My dear sister please never disconnect yourself or detach yourself from God even in your lowest moment. He loves you with a genuine love.
