Devotional 2021 - Week 13

Genesis 30 verses 22 – 24

22 Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb. 23 And she conceived and bore a son, and said, “God has taken away my reproach.” 24 So she called his name Joseph, and said, “The Lord shall add to me another son.”

Our heavenly Father is a faithful Father who never forgets his children. No matter how long it takes, wait for Him He will surely remember you.

When you read Genesis 30 from the beginning, you will find that after Rachel got married to Jacob, she did not have children. Her sister Leah did not have the same problem and was giving birth to children for Jacob. This made Rachel envious and desperate to have her own children.  She went to her husband in desperation which is understandable, but he couldn’t help her.  She then decided out of her pain and desperation to give her maid to Jacob to sleep with so she could have a child through her maid Bilhah. Bilhah conceived and had 2 boys for Jacob.  There is no indication that Rachel consulted God before taking this decision. No matter how dire our situation, let us always remember to go to God and ask Him to guide and direct us. Let us hear from Him first, let us know His mind. He will never lead us astray

So, up to this point, Rachel did what she could do by her strength and it produced some results but God still had His best in store for her. Up to this point she self-managed and self-solved her problem. Self-management might produce some results but it will fall short of God’s perfect will for us.

Then we read in verse 22 that “God remembered Rachel and God listened to her and opened her womb.” One good thing this shows is that even though Rachel had tried to solve her problem for herself in the way she thought was best, she had also been praying, and crying to the Lord because, the scripture says “and God listened to her.,,,”. Beyond that God remembered her and blessed her. God came through for her. God broke through for her. God surprised her and brought joy and laughter into her life.

I want to prophesy that God will remember you in whatever area you have been waiting for Him, believing Him, trusting Him, crying out to Him, praying to Him. It does not matter how long you have been waiting, suffering reproach, He will remember you. You will laugh, and your heart will be filled with joy.  We don’t know how long Rachel had to wait, but God came through for her at the nick of time. Your prayers, trust, holding on, not compromising, not giving in to, will not be in vain.

Is it for a life partner, for a job, for your children to turn to Lord, for your spouse and parents to be saved, for your healing, for your marriage to be healed, for an addiction to be broken, for your finances, for your nationality papers, for reconciliation and restoration, whatever the issue is, I declare to you my God is faithful, He will surely do it at the appointed time. Wait for Him, He will not disappoint you.

Grace to you sisters……...
