Devotional 2018 - Week 8

2 Corinthians 4 vs 16-18 (NIV)

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

As Christians, we are in this world but not of this world yet many a time we allow ourselves to be consumed by its troubles.  The Bible says though we are 'wasting away' in this world which I take to mean 'growing old, spiritually we are being renewed. As we spend more time in the Word and in prayer our spirit being is growing stronger, our faith is growing stronger. The challenges we face here on earth, however painful are just for a season. Therefore we must not place all of our focus on the here and now remembering that we are just passing through this world.

Though we are heavily affected by the trials and tribulations of this world; sickness, sorrow injustice, betrayal and so on, this is momentary. Let us look beyond our current situation and stop worrying about what we are yet to achieve or receive. In time God will bring these things as it is His will for us.  Let us place our eyes on God our creator.  Let us look to Him for strength, comfort and guidance as we live to fulfil our purpose.

Take heart that we have eternal life to look forward to with our Lord and Saviour - this cannot be matched to anything the world has to offer.
