About
The Chosen Generation Youth Hub is a Community Connect initiative for youth/young people aged 11–21, that reside within the Mottingham / Grove Park, and the wider Lewisham Borough area. The need for this project arose following a survey carried out with a cross section of residents living in the Grove Park area, where one of the key and repeated needs highlighted was for a place for the youth.
Aim and Vision
Our aim and vision is to provide a safe environment for young people to enjoy spending time together socially with others, providing video games, board games, a Chill & Chat space, food, table tennis table, pool table, music, quiz nights, movie nights, creative art opportunities and much more. There will also be outdoor activities and events organised from time to time.
Through the hub, we aim to empower, engage, encourage and inspire the young people, not only by providing space and resources, but through resourcing them with necessary life skills and challenging them to be the best they can be, through various workshops and mentoring sessions. The Youth Hub will be a place where young people have fun, are shown care, can interact, and are helped to discover and fulfil their potential and life purpose. This will be done in partnership with the young people based on their particular needs.
Safeguarding / DBS
We have a Child Protection Safeguarding policy and officer in place and all youth workers are DBS checked and trained in safeguarding.
What is on offer?
The Chosen Generation Youth Hub will provide a variety of programmes/initiatives aimed at empowering, engaging and inspiring the young people of Grove Park / Mottingham, and Lewisham as a whole. These include the following:
1. Youth Group meeting bi-weekly
The Youth Hub will be open every other Friday at Rehoboth Building (72A Mayeswood Road, Grove Park SE12 9RP) between 7.00pm and 8.30pm to host different activities/events for the youth. It will be a place where young people can have fun through video games, table games, quiz nights, film nights, peer interaction, creative arts, etc. This will be a time for young people to come into a safe environment with games and an atmosphere where they are free to be themselves and listened to. In these sessions, they will be able to speak to youth workers about issues that they may be facing at school or home. It will also provide a community of positivity as well. They will be able to unwind from a long week through games and interaction with others. The young people will also have the opportunity to interact with qualified individuals and outside agencies, on different needs / topics highlighted by them. There will also be regular life enhancing talks on various topics.
2. Mentoring events
These will take place thrice yearly. At these events young people will be able to interact and ask questions of successful / experienced individuals to help them think about what career or future paths they may want to embark on. This will also help to assist them in visualising their future possibilities. There will also be access to one to one mentoring on a regular basis for those who will like this. Our belief is that a community where young people are given purpose and mentorship is a community that is safe and thriving.
3. Youth Conference/Summit
This will be a yearly event that will entail bringing in guest speakers and having workshops, teaching skills that will add value to every young person in attendance. The Youth Conference/Summit will provide the opportunity for a round table forum to discuss the things young people feel are important to them which will help to shape our events for the following year. This event is designed to empower and encourage every young person to take the initiative to know and use the skills and gifts they possess.
The Youth Hub is open to all young people regardless of background.
