GOD HAS GREAT PLANS FOR YOU
God has a great plan for every one of His children. He doesn’t save us and then start figuring out what to do with us. He saves us because He already has a purpose, a vision, and a destiny prepared.
Jeremiah 29:11 is one of the most quoted scriptures on divine purpose:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Even though this encouraging word was originally spoken to Israel in exile, it reveals a timeless truth about God’s heart toward His people. It applies to us today.
This scripture says, “I know” God is not ignorant of His plans for your life, He knows His plans and purpose for your life.
God is not uncertain, confused, or undecided about your destiny. He says, “I know.”
He is fully aware of His plans for you, plans of peace, wholeness, and hope. You and may not have known the details. People around you may not know. Circumstances may not look like it. But God knows, and His knowledge is perfect.
His plans for your life began even before you were conceived, before you were born, God had your life all planned out.
Jeremiah 1: 5 - “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Psalm 139 paints an even more intimate picture of God’s involvement in our creation. He formed our inward parts, shaped our frame in secret, and wrote every one of our days in His book before any of them came to be. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, crafted with divine intention. Our existence is not an accident. He knows the number of hairs on our head , We were created with purpose, on purpose, for purpose.
Psalm 139:13-16
13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, and skilfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book, they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.
God’s plan covers all His children. And it is personal in detail tailored uniquely to each life. He knows each of us individually.
It is both personal and universal. He gives gifts, talents, assignments, and grace to every believer for the specific good works He designed for them.
Ephesians 2: 10 - For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
God has not left anyone out. God’s personal plan is unique to you. Your journey is not the same as anyone else’s. Your calling has its own shape, timing, and expression.
Every child of God must understand that God’s plan for them is
Personal, Specific, Intentional, Tailored and Unique.
Even the difficult moments of life are woven into this design. Romans 8:28 assures us that all things—whether joyful or painful—work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. Even when life feels chaotic, God is quietly working in the background helping us put things together, even when it does not make sense.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
As I was writing this, I was reminded of Elijah in the cave and God’s instruction to choose his successor. God knew and had plans for these men without them realising. 1 Kings 19:15-16
15 Then the Lord said to him: “Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Hazael as king over Syria. 16 Also you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel. And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place.
The story of Elijah in the cave offers a powerful reminder of how God’s plans unfold. Elijah was discouraged, isolated, and unsure of the future, yet God was already speaking names, assignments, and destinies of men Elijah probably had never heard of. Hazael, Jehu, and Elisha were not looking for roles. They were not aware of God’s plans for their lives. But God was aware. Their destinies were already prepared. In the same way, you may not see what God has prepared for you. You may feel hidden, overlooked, or uncertain. But God is not confused about your future. His plans are already written, waiting to be revealed.
You may be here today completely unaware of what God has prepared for you. But I am here to remind you that God has great plans for your life. His plans do not unfold through passivity. They unfold through pressing into Him, through asking, through trust, and through submission to His guidance.
Just as Elijah discovered God’s next instructions only when he returned to the path God set for him, you discover God’s purpose as you walk with Him, lean into Him, and surrender to His redemptive work in your life.
In Jeremiah 29:12-13,
12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
However, God’s plans do not unfold through passivity. They unfold through pursuit. Jeremiah 29:12–13 outlines four actions that lead us into God’s purpose: calling upon Him, praying to Him, seeking Him, and searching for Him with all our heart. These are intentional movements of the soul. God’s plans and purpose are not discovered by drifting; it is discovered by leaning into God, by drawing near to Him with sincerity and surrender.

Many believers miss God’s plan because they chase what they believe is God’s plan. The Apostle Paul is a good example. Before his encounter with Christ, Paul was persecuting the church, convinced he was serving God. He was zealous, passionate, and determined but he was wrong. Jesus interrupted him and revealed his true assignment: Paul was a chosen vessel to bear the name of Jesus before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. Paul was chosen, but he was pursuing the agenda of men. Many believers today do the same, following ambition, culture, or personal desire instead of God’s voice. True purpose is not found in self-driven pursuits. It is found in surrender.
In Acts 9:15-16, Jesus said to Ananias
15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”
The good news is that no matter where you are, no matter how far you feel, no matter what you have pursued, God’s plan is not lost. His purpose for your life is still intact. You can still call upon Him. You can still pray. You can still seek Him. You can still search for Him with all your heart. And when you do, He will be found. When He is found, His great plan for your life will unfold. You are not too late. You are not too far gone. God has great plans for your life, plans written before you were born, plans filled with hope, peace, and divine intention. As you walk with Him, lean into Him, and surrender to His guidance, you will discover the destiny He prepared for you. You can still find God today. You can still discover His great plan for your life.
