WOL Community Connect

The Word of Life Hamper outreach was organised in conjunction with Lewisham Salvation Army. We worked together to decide which foods would be included and how to put the money we had, to best use, by using the internet to find out the best Supermarket prices.

We included Christmas treats, chocolate, fruit juices, shortbread, and sweets for the children but we also put into the bags staple foods to help people to get through January, to be able to eat well over the Holiday is wonderful but January can be quite a financial challenge to those who have very little.

On the sixteenth of December members of both Churches met during the afternoon to pack the bags, about sixty in all, and organise the evening delivery. We all enjoyed the afternoon and the good preparation (By Captain Martin) using the experience we gained last year, made the task flow with ease..

During the evening various Members of Word of Life delivered the bags to different households in the Lewisham area. The next morning a large number of bags were delivered to the Refugee Centre that both Churches have been supporting in different ways throughout the year.

Many thanks to those that supported this and gave so generously many families have been blessed and the joy on their faces when the food was delivered reminded us all that giving is a central part of Christmas and reminds us of the Greatest Gift of all, the gift of Jesus Christ to a needy world. Thank you all again.
